Recently, one of my mentees on Topmate reached out to me, asking for resources to get basic knowledge of cloud skills required for getting into a data analytics role. Hence, I did some research and felt like writing an article on the same for my audience.

This article is for both freshers and data analytics professionals who are exploring to upskill themselves in cloud technologies specific to the data analytics domain.

Why learn Cloud technologies?

Cloud expertise is becoming more and more crucial for a data analyst position. The storage, processing, and analysis of data have all been transformed by cloud computing, and many businesses are now using cloud-based solutions to meet their data needs.

Data analysts must therefore change in order to be competitive in the job market and to be more effective in their positions. As the demand for cloud-based data solutions continues to grow, acquiring and improving cloud skills will become even more critical for data analysts.

I’ve compiled the free resources/learning paths for data analysts across the 3 major cloud service providers in this article.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon web services is the biggest cloud services provider with a 33% market share as of 2022. It is used by many companies from startups to many big organizations for their cloud computing needs.

Azure

Azure is the cloud service platform provided by Microsoft. It has a market share of 22%, right below AWS in terms of usage. It is providing tough competition to AWS, specifically in terms of data analytics services.

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

GCP is the cloud platform developed and managed by Google. It is the 3rd biggest cloud service provider after AWS and Azure, with a 10% market share as of 2022. Though it is not used by many organizations, some major corporations (including mine) are using it for their cloud computing needs.

Google’s cloud skills boost platform has a free learning path for data analysts. Since the URL is unique for each user after login, please search ‘ ‘Data analyst learning path cloudskillsboost’ in Google and choose the relevant link.

Which one to learn?

AWS is more commonly used across various companies while Azure is catching up. GCP is used by some big organizations, but is not common across many organizations.

Hence, I’d suggest you upskill in AWS or Azure data analytics services. If you have any target companies in mind for your next job, try to understand which cloud technology they are using and upskill yourself accordingly.

Hope this article threw some light upon upskilling yourself in cloud technologies!
