Interview process for data related job roles
Data Analytics Interviews
The data analytics job market is getting extremely competitive day-by-day in India. So, it’s better to be well prepared in advance to gain a competitive advantage.
I’ve attended 50+ interviews with 20+ companies in the last 2 years and I’m sharing my interview experience through this article. I hope this helps you in your job search process!
Interview rounds
The following are the types of interview rounds that you can expect while applying for data-related job roles:
1) HR screening round
- You will get a call from the recruiter/HR of the company
- They would ask questions about your skills, work experience, current/expected CTC, etc.
- If the answer satisfied them, they would set up the 1st round of technical interview
- In some cases, they may set up a 10-minute meeting over Team/Zoom for ID verification
2) Technical round
- Usually tests the knowledge of the tools required for the job
- Questions from past projects can be expected here
- Having a personal project portfolio in this round is a big plus
- They may ask you to present one of your projects live on call
- A maximum of 2 technical rounds can be expected
- The hiring manager/team lead would be asking the questions
3) Machine test round
- A 1-hr/2-hr meeting would be scheduled and an assignment would be shared just before the interview to your email ID
- You need to join the meeting (Teams/Zoom), share your screen and complete the assignment live
- A recruiter/associate from the company will be monitoring your work
- Some companies will allow you to search on Google if you’re stuck. But, it’s better to clarify that before the round begins
4) Data challenge round
- The company would share an assignment and give you a 1-day or 2-day deadline to submit the output
- It is similar to machine test round, but here you can work on your own timelines
- The difficulty level might be high, but you have the flexibility to use ChatGPT or Google for reference
- The output can be well formatted and presented with enough time and can offer you big leverage during further rounds
5) Managerial round
- You will be asked questions to assess your attitude and work ethic
- This usually involves the hiring manager’s manager asking the questions (depending on the seniority of the role)
- They will try to understand if you’re a right fit for the company culture
- We can try to know the role completely by asking genuine questions in this round
6) Salary negotiation round
- This usually happens with HR where they would offer you a CTC with benefits based on your performance
- You can negotiate better pay and perks if you perform well or have counter offers in hand
Conclusion
A combination of 2–4 of the any of the above rounds can be expected during the interviews depending on company and the hiring manager. Overall, this article would provide you a heads-up, if you’re currently preparing for a job switch within the data industry.
