Power BI — Beginner v/s Professional
The difference between a Beginner and a Professional in a single picture! 🎯
I was going through my old Power BI projects this weekend and stumbled upon my 1st dashboard.
This project was a simple sales insights dashboard based on a YT playlist by Dhaval Patel and Hemanand Vadivel of CodeBasics. In fact, I wrote a LinkedIn post after completing that project.
To be honest, I was kind of embarrassed with the dashboard design. After more than 1.5 years of using Power BI, I could find so many flaws in the first dashboard that I built. But at the same time, I felt happy that I’ve come a long way and have gained a lot of knowledge during this period.
So, I sat down for an hour and tried to rectify all the flaws. You may see the stark difference between the old and new design of the dashboard in the above image. Here are the changes I made:
- Reduced number of colors used
- Stuck to a common theme. In this case, I used AtliQ logo colors (red and black)
- Changed the font size appropriately
- Added visual borders and logo
- Provided a proper heading (yeah, made that mistake too)
These small changes made a drastic difference in the perception of the report. It brought consistency to colors and formatting.
☀️ Moral: Don’t worry if your first project looks very simple and unappealing. You’ll learn and grow better at your skill through constant practice.
