Do you know that learning Power BI Service is as important as Power BI Desktop?

Most beginners in Power BI follow the below path:

  • Decide to learn Power BI and search for learning resources
  • Take up courses online/offline
  • Do projects on Power BI desktop
  • Publish them to their portfolio

The most common pattern that I noticed, is that most courses teach them in-depth about PBI desktop but focus less on PBI service.

But once you start working in the industry as a Power BI developer, it becomes essential to know more about PBI service. Also, if you’re a Power BI Administrator for your organization, you will have almost 50% of tasks to be carried out in PBI Service.

The Power BI reports are deployed and consumed using PBI service. The learning curve is shorter for PBI service compared to that of PBI desktop.

Tasks done in Power BI Service

In this article, I’m sharing a few features/tasks that are most commonly used/done in PBI service:

  • Schedule and monitor refreshes of the reports
  • Creation of Power BI dashboards (Google report vs dashboard in PBI)
