How to negotiate a higher salary while making a job switch in a IT tech role in India?

It depends on multiple factors such as:

Your tech capabilities — You need to among the top 10–15% of the skilled people in the tech stack pertaining to your target role.

Market situation — If the economy is in the bullish phase, chances are the companies are willing to splurge more to hire good talent (Example: 2020–2021 phase).

Size of company — Small companies find it hard to attract good talent, so they may offer lucrative packages to compete with renowned companies.

Salary grade you are being hired — Every mid-scale to large company will have certain salary grades designated based on skills and experience. If you’re able to land a higher grade during negotiation, then you can get a higher salary.

Counter offers at hand — It’s the most easiest leverage you can have. If you can crack multiple job offers, you can use them to work your way to the highest possible salary the market is willing to pay you for your skills and experience.

Network — If you have the right connections who can open up new opportunities for you, then the chances are you can get the best package are higher.

If you can have at least 3–4 things mentioned above go your way, you will be able to negotiate hard and make big bucks in your CTC💰

Corporate salaries in India are not transparent due to its own reasons. The only way to work your way through, is by having the right leverage against your competition.
